What Is (IVF) In Vitro Fertilization ?

In Vitro Fertilization is a type of Assisted Reproductive Technique( ART Technique) . it is an advanced procedure that has helped many couple realise their dreams and conceive.In this procedure the gametes of both the partners i.e. the eggs(oocytes) and sperms are collected and after that they are fertilized outside the body in the laboratory under optimal conditions in our state of the art laboratory equipped with latest gadgets. The embryos are then checked for fertilisation and are transferred either in the same cycle ( fresh transfer) or the embryos are frozen and transfer in some other cycle (frozen embryo cycle).

How happens during an IVF procedure?

Step By Step IVF Procedure

Step 1- Blood investigations and ultrasound scan: These tests are done on second day of your periods

Step 2- Controlled ovarian stimulation: the patient is given injectable to make the follicles for the next 10-12 days

Step 3- Trigger injection: It is given when your follicles are of adequate size

Step 4- Egg retrieval : Ovum pickup is done after 36 to 40 hours of trigger

Step 5- Sperm retrieval : It is done on the same day of ovum pickup and ivf is done in the laboratory

Step 6- Fertilization :  The fertilization takes place after 24 to 36 hours and embryos are cultured in the laboratory

Step 7- Embryo transfer: Patient's embryo transfer is scheduled on day 3/5 and it is the most important step of ivf

Step 8- Pregnancy test: After embryo transfer you are given medications for 14 days, pregnancy test is done after that

 

What is ICSI ( INTRA CYTOPLASMIC SPERM INJECTION)?

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is commonly used these days by IVF laboratories to fertilize the egg. ICSI is associated with increased fertilisation and thus success rate.Although all couples don’t require ICSI. ICSI is one of  the most successful form of assisted reproductive techniques
